Starting Out
This was my first time working in a game engine, as well as the first time working in a team in the 2022 revision.
Creating the Movement
-
Basic Controls
-
Fluid in-air movement
-
Slippery movement on ground
-
Low gravity

I added other things to make the character feel fun to play and keep human errors like poor reaction time at a low.

-
Time dilation when prepping an axe throw
-
Line pointing to where you were aiming
-
Coyote time (allows jumping shortly after leaving a platform)
-
Particle effects followed the player
-
Slide move
Moving to Unreal Engine
When I went to tackle the new revision of Axe Game, that was a completely different beast. The last one was made in Game Maker Studio, this one was made in Unreal Engine. I wanted to make it again in Game Maker but my teammates at the time only knew Unreal, so we went with that.
Problems
-
Unreal Engine isn't good at 2D Games
-
First time on a team
-
Brand new team

Finishing Touches
-
Revamping UI
-
Adding Ground Pound ability
