Starting Out

This was my first time working in a game engine, as well as the first time working in a team in the 2022 revision.

Creating the Movement

  • Basic Controls

  • Fluid in-air movement

  • Slippery movement on ground

  • Low gravity

I added other things to make the character feel fun to play and keep human errors like poor reaction time at a low.

  1. Time dilation when prepping an axe throw

  2. Line pointing to where you were aiming

  3. Coyote time (allows jumping shortly after leaving a platform)

  4. Particle effects followed the player

  5. Slide move

Moving to Unreal Engine

When I went to tackle the new revision of Axe Game, that was a completely different beast. The last one was made in Game Maker Studio, this one was made in Unreal Engine. I wanted to make it again in Game Maker but my teammates at the time only knew Unreal, so we went with that.

Problems

  • Unreal Engine isn't good at 2D Games

  • First time on a team

  • Brand new team

Finishing Touches
